Dark ground-level apartment turns into a bright and energized home by using light-colored materials and high output LED lighting. More importantly, we removed most of the walls and replaced them with translucent and clear glass, allowing for both natural light and artificial light to migrate between spaces.

Total gut renovation of a pre-fabricated home built in the 1980s

White Minimal Open Kitchen looking into Living Area

Our design intent for this modern apartment gut renovation was to create not just an open floor plan, but a spatial experience rooted in a light. To achieve the balance of the industrial and minimalist aesthetic, we incorporated steel plate shelves and exposed the concrete structure. Vistas of the monochromatic color scheme are highlighted by accent trims to create planes of visual texture and light. Throughout the home, layered whites and minimalist forms beckon.

Modern Duplex Apartment Gut Renovation

Existing Condition - The apartment is located on the 1st floor of a brownstone in the East Harlem area. Limited natural light and difficult access to the garden present a disconnect between the exterior and interior. 
Design Intent - create a master suite with immediate access to the garden, lower level, and increase natural light.  
A new door and three windows are proposed, along the garden wall, allowing for ample natural light, visual connectivity to the outdoors, and ease of access to the garden. 
The master bathroom was relocated and placed along the exterior way enjoying a garden view and natural light. 
Glass walls and wood screens are used to divide the spaces while allowing a  flow of air and space. In general, the intent is to allow a light and airy spatial experience with strong connectivity to the outdoors.

5-degree house

In design - modern addition to a traditional center colonial. 
The new structure is rotated 5 degrees allowing the landscape to surround the house. 
Careful attention is given to the quality of natural light as it changes across the day.  

Beyond Function Kitchen

THE ESSENCE – We believe that essential part of creating a usable friendly space small or large. Is the ability to move and use the space in a most natural way – space as a second nature.

Our attempt is to develop a fabric that will enrich the experience of the interior space, tie function and design elements together to create a sculptural/machine like object that will activated the space and define the nuances of space and time
10’x4’ double sided working island placed parallel to the house exterior wall, cooking activity benefits from new large glass door facing the outdoor, over head floating ceiling with recessed lighting spans across kitchen space to reach the dining table and support pendent lighting fixture.

Materials – Design makes use of LED lighting fixture through-out the project, veneered Apple-ply with exposed edges for the floating ceiling, porcelain floor tiles, galvanized steel plate shelves and IKEA cabinets with quartz surface counter top

Material, form and light come together as one cohesive language creating a narrative staring at the kitchen counter via the dining space to the outdoor deck.

Modern Brooklyn Apartment Remodel

Our approach was to reorganize key apartment spaces, in order to re-energize,  strengthen the flow between them and the apartment as a whole. 
Kitchen space was relocated from its current area to a location across from living space. The newly create space allowed for a more natural flow between living space and the open kitchen. Both enjoined natural light and city views. 

Special attention was given to the illumination of the living space. Thought process was revolving around the idea of theatrical scenes. Pendant lighting as main source of illumination while multi place cove LED light was to wall wash the surrounding walls, all are separately control and dimmable.
